€5.5M Allocated to 119 Projects via BAI Sound & Vision Scheme
22 May 2017 : Katie McNeice
The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland has allocated just over €5m of this funding to television projects, with ‘Darklands’ from Parallel Film Productions and ‘Ballybradan’ from Treehouse Republic leading the awards with €500,000 each.

Highlights are the new six-part crime series produced by Parallel for TV3, and the investments of €250,000 and €150,000 respectively to second seasons of Deadpan Pictures’ ‘Can’t Cope, Won’t Cope’ and RTÉ’s ‘Striking Out’.

Other significant awards went to ‘Healthy Appetite’ to be produced by Mind the Gap Films for RTÉ One with €300,000 allocated, Grand Pictures’ ‘Dark Lies The Island’ for RTÉ with €250,000 and finally with €240,000 going to Igloo Productions' 'Peek Zoo' for RTÉjr.

€200,000 apiece also goes to both Red Pepper Productions’ ‘FOTA Ireland: Into the Wild’ for TV3 and Brown Bag Films’ ‘Angela’s Christmas’ for RTÉ One.

Michael O’Keeffe, Chief Executive, BAI:
“While there is a slight decrease in the number of applications in this round, once again the amount sought far exceeded the funding available. The scheme is financed from the Broadcast Fund, which comprises 7 per cent of the annual net receipts from television licence fees.

“At a time when measures are under consideration to counter television licence evasion, it is worth bearing in mind that any increase in revenue will also lead to an increase in the amounts available to support more projects of the type we are announcing today, and make a further contribution to the quality of the content available to Irish audiences.”
