The six-time Oscar nominated director of the recent ‘The Secret Scripture’ is set to tackle the breakout of thirty-eight IRA prisoners from Her Majesty's Prison Maze in 1983.
Sheridan is currently working on the script with ’13 Reasons Why’ writer Nic Sheff, based on the original work of Tony Devlin and Gavin McCloskey.
The escape was one of the most violent in Irish or British history, with only nineteen prisoners recaptured.
The ‘Anthropiod’ co-stars will play two of the escaped republican prisoners, whose freedom from H-Block cost one officer his life. He suffered a fatal heart attack following a stabbing while many more were seriously injured, including one with a non-fatal gunshot to the head.
Dylan Sellars (The Starling) is set to produce with the title selling at Cannes this month, handled by Mister Smith Entertainment.
‘The Secret Scripture’ was recently nominated for Best Film, Director, Editing (Dermot Diskin), Costume Design (Joan Bergin) and Original Music (Brian Byrne) at the 2017 IFTA Fim & Drama Awards. Derek Wallace was also nominated in the category of Best Production Design and took home the award on the night.
