Head of News will take up his new role with TV3 immediately.
TV3 has appointed Mick McCaffrey as Head of 3 News Ireland. The announcement follows the retirement of TV3 director of news Andrew Hanlon and the completion of TV3-owner Virgin Media’s deal to acquire UTV Ireland from ITV.
An award winning crime editor, national newspaper news editor and bestselling author, Mick has 13 years of national news and current affairs experience and was News Editor at UTV Ireland for the past two years.
He was Senior Investigative Journalist at the Sunday World and was voted Crime and Security Journalist of the year in 2013 at the National Newspapers of Ireland Journalism Awards. Prior to that, he was News Editor at the Sunday Tribune.
A native of Dublin, Mick has been an Irish Times No1 bestselling author on two occasions and holds a MA in Politics and Political Communications and a BA in Journalism and Media Communications.
Bill Malone, TV3 Group Director of Programming, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Mick to TV3 at such an exciting time as the Group evolves into a three channel business. He brings with him a wealth of experience and I look forward to 3 News Ireland developing as the leading independent television news service in Ireland, providing bespoke news content across our three channels and digital platforms.”
