Winner of the Best Digital Innovation / Digital Creativity award at the Royal Television Society - Midlands Gala Award Ceremony for the #WeAreYou films.
The Belfast based production company Out of Orbit and Birmingham based agency Tinker Taylor accepted the award at the ceremony which took place on the 3rd November in Solihull, UK.
Working with a local cast and crew and filmed in the greater Belfast area, the films focus on the everyday challenges facing Police Officers following the mothers, fathers and granddaughters behind the uniform.
The #WeAreYou project was watched by over one million viewers within the first four weeks of its launch in March 2016.
The project, which was commissioned by the Police Federation of Northern Ireland, and was directed by Jonathan Beer, produced by Brian J. Falconer and Christopher Myers, Director of Photography was Mark Garret and Executive Producer Sam Taylor.
The Chairman of the Police Federation for Northern Ireland, Mark Lindsay, congratulated the team on its success and said “We Are You struck a chord. We set out to challenge and confront some stereotypes and we succeeded. That, in no small measure, was due to the creativity of Tinker Taylor and the talented and Bafta award-winning Out of Orbit team.”
When speaking about the #WeAreYou project, Executive Producer Sam Taylor said, “What we wanted to do is bring the public closer to the police, we wanted people to see through the uniform, and we wanted people to understand that these are just ordinary people just like you and me who are doing very difficult and rather extraordinary jobs.”
Talking about the filming process, Producer Brian J.Falconer said, “Jon the director wanted to film them over the shoulder like fly on the wall, because its real situations that the police officers have to deal with every day. We just wanted to get the drama right and show people that this is a vital service that people provide for us in the community.”
