‘The Fall’ Actresses voice support for Women in Film and upcoming ‘Guard’
28 Oct 2016 : Katie McNeice
Bronagh Waugh who plays Sally Ann Spector and Niamh McGrady, known for her role as PC Ferrington on the hit series have voiced their support for co-star Bronagh Taggart, set to star in the Belfast boxing film.

Taggart (Scorpion) plays Gail McNally in the BBC series and has also penned ‘Guard’, in which she will play the lead role. The project is set to enter production in early 2017 and a crowdfunding campaign is currently underway.

BAFTA-winning and Oscar-nominated Michael Lennox (Boogaloo and Graham) is on board as a cinematographer. Jonathan Harden (The Truth Commissioner) will produce and direct.

Waugh (Steel Country) and McGrady (Learning to Breathe have pledged their support for the project, with an emphasis on the strength of the leading female character. Taggart will play Katie, who is drawn into the world of boxing following her father’s release from an extended prison sentence.

Bronagh Waugh, Actress:
“52% of movie goers are women yet only 15% of the highest grossing Hollywood films are led by female characters…I really want to see this film get made. I’ve seen the script and Bronagh is a really fantastic writer.”

Niamh McGrady, Actress:
“This story deserves to be told, not only for Bronagh and Jonathan but for Belfast and for Women in Film.”

Bronagh Taggart, Writer & Actress:
“I feel extremely grateful for the unwavering support the other actresses from 'The Fall' have given me. Not only are they talented and courageous but they are inspiring to me as women who continue to thrive in a business in which the odds are stacked against us. To have them back 'Guard', a female-led film, is an example of how women in the film business can nurture and encourage one another, which is not only awesome but extremely exciting.”

5% of all funds raised through the campaign will be donated to Women’s Aid NI.
