European Heritage Open Day focus on Northern Ireland Filming Locations
17 Aug 2016 : Katie McNeice
Kit Harrington (Jon Snow) on set
Over 300 property openings and events are scheduled for September 10th and 11th as part of the programme for the European Heritage Open Days.

Screenings and talks dedicated to filming locations in Northern Ireland are included in this year’s programme.

With ‘Game of Thrones’ set to wrap up its ten-year production in two seasons time, the programme is yet another homage to continued potential for film and TV production in the hub of Northern Ireland.

As noted in our recent article Post ‘Game of Thrones’ will be an exciting period for Northern Ireland NI Screen CEO Richard Williams has stated, “I’m hugely excited about the period after ‘Game of Thrones,’ where we have a level of stage capacity such that there really isn’t a project we couldn’t facilitate.”

The programme of talks is supported by NI Screen and The Belfast Film Festival and features active professionals in its line-up of speakers, such as Location Manager Catherine Geary. She will share insights from productions such as ‘Game of Thrones’, ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ and ‘Skyfall’.

Filmmaker Christopher Myers is also set to share his knowledge of the filmmaking process, with a focus on projects shot in Co. Fermanagh. These will include feature film ‘Miss Julie’ starring Colin Farrell and Jessica Chastain. Screenings include ‘The Truth Commissioner’ directed by Declan Recks and Paul Kennedy’s ‘Made in Belfast’.

All programme events are free but must be booked in advance.
