Northern Irish film ‘The Survivalist’ will be released by Bulldog Film Distribution on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD on April 15th.
The film, written and directed by Stephen Fingleton, was recently nominated for four IFTA Awards including Best Film, Best Director (Fingleton), Best Actor (Martin McCann) and Best Supporting Actress (Olwen Fouéré). Filmmaker Fingleton also won the IFTA Rising Star Award (sponsored by the Irish Film Board). Fingleton also won Best Debut Director at the 2015 BIFA Awards while the film was nominated for Best Debut Feature at the BAFTA Awards earlier this year.
‘The Survivalist’ is the near future story of a man (Martin McCann) eking out a meagre existence on a secluded smallholding deep in the forest. When a starving woman (Olwen Fouéré) and her teenage daughter (Mia Goth) discover his farm, his loneliness drives him to strike a bargain with them in return for bed and board. But as desire becomes stronger than necessity, the exchange becomes an uneasy, ongoing arrangement which threatens not only his carefully constructed world but also his life.
The film was developed with the support of the BFI Film Fund and Northern Ireland Screen’s New Talent Focus Scheme and the screenplay was previously featured on the Hollywood Blacklist and topped the UK Brit List. It’s produced by Wayne Marc Godfrey, Robert Jones, and David Gilbery, with financing by The Fyzz Facility, alongside Northern Ireland Screen, the BFI and Goldcrest.
