‘Doc McStuffins’ and ‘Octonauts’ – both produced by Dublin-based animation studio Brown Bag Films – have been nominated for a Producers Guild of America Award.
The animated series are both nominated for the Award for Outstanding Children's Program - up against The Fairly OddParents, Sesame Street, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Toy Story That Time Forgot.
Northern Irish shot fantasy series ‘Game of Thrones’ – a big winner at this year’s Emmy Awards – was also nominated. The series is up against ‘Better Call Saul’, ‘Homeland’, ‘House of Cards’ and ‘Mad Men’ in the Outstanding Producer of Episodic Television, Drama category.
‘Doc McStuffins’ was created by Chris Nee and is a Disney Junior production in conjunction with Brown Bag Films. The story follows a girl who communicates with and heals stuffed animals and broken toys out of her backyard playhouse clinic. The returning voice cast includes Laya DeLeon Hayes as Doc, Loretta Devine, Lara Jill Miller, Robbie Rist, Jess Harnell, Andre Robinson, Kimberly Brooks and Gary Anthony Williams.
The series premiered on Disney Junior on March 23, 2012 where it broke ratings records to instantly become the number one preschool show on U.S. cable television.
‘Octonauts’ is based on the childrens’ books by Vicki Wong and Michael C Murphy of Meomi Design. It follows a bunch of animals that live under water and explore different areas via their aquatic vehicles and Brown Bag animated the series, with Silvergate Media, BBC Children and Cbeebies producing.
The winners of the 27th Annual Producers Guild Awards ceremony will be announced on January 23, 2016 at the Hyatt Regency Plaza in Century City, California.
