Actor Niall Toibin has received the Freedom of Cork in recognition for his artistic endeavour and career that has spanned over 50 years so far.
Cork-born Toibin, an IFTA Lifetime Achievement Award recipient in 2010, was awarded the honour from Lord Mayor Councillor Mary Shield at Cork City Hall for his lifetime of artistic achievement and for being an ambassador of the Irish language.
The freedom presentation comes five years after University College Cork (UCC) celebrated the actor with the award of an honorary doctorate, according to the Independent.
Niall Tóibín was born at Bishop’s Field on Cork’s northside in 1929 and attended the famous North Mon secondary school and then left Cork for work in 1947.
