With the IFTA Film & Drama Awards less than three weeks away, we are continuing our focus on the ceremony with a look at the 2015 nominees in the Costume Design category.

And it is a talented line-up indeed.

Nominated once again for her work in the internationally renowned History Channel television series ‘Vikings’ is Joan Bergin.

Bergin was also nominated for an IFTA in 2014 for her work on the show and the decorated costume designer is celebrating her tenth nomination this year. She has won the award three times so far in 2008, 2009 and 2011, all for ‘The Tudors’. ‘The Tudors’ also landed Bergin three Primetime Emmy Awards as well as four nominations for the Costume Designers Guild Awards.

Joan served as Costume Designer for Jim Sheridan’s upcoming feature film ‘The Secret Scripture’ and has also worked on ‘The Prestige’, ‘Veronica Guerin’ and ‘Reign Of Fire’.

Miss Julie’s Costume Designer Consolata Boyle will also be gunning for IFTA glory on May 24 – a feat she has experienced four times before - winning for ‘Philomena’, ‘The Iron Lady’, ‘Cheri’ and ‘The Queen’ – with the latter film also garnering her Oscar and BAFTA nominations, as well as a Costume Designers Guild Award.

Boyle also won a Primetime Emmy Award in 2004 for the television movie ‘The Lion In Winter’ and has worked on acclaimed films such as ‘The Actors’, ‘The Eclipse’, ‘Byzantium’ and ‘Testament Of Youth’.

Lorna Marie Mugan has received her eighth IFTA nomination this year with her work on the second series of the British television drama ‘Peaky Blinders’ – which stars Cillian Murphy (who is also IFTA-nominated for the show).

Mugan has previously been IFTA-nominated for ‘Ripper Street’ (twice), ‘Treasure Island’, ‘My Boy Jack’, ‘Inside I’m Dancing’, ‘Man About Dog’ and ‘Intermission’. Her work on ‘Ripper Street’ has also garnered her a BAFTA nomination in 2013 and she has also previously been nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for the television movie ‘Treasure Island’.

Check out our Q&A with Lorna Marie Mugan about her work on ‘Peaky Blinders’ here.

Eimear Ni Mhaoldomhnaigh is the final nominee of this category – nominated for providing 1930’s Irish garb for Ken Loach’s ‘Jimmy’s Hall’. She has been nominated for an IFTA six times before – for ‘Watermelon’, ‘Breakfast On Pluto’, ‘Becoming Jane’, ‘Brideshead Revisited’, ‘Ondine’ and ‘Neverland’

She has also been nominated for a 2001 Primetime Emmy Award for her work on the television movie ‘David Copperfield’ and other credits include ‘In America’, ‘The Guard’ and ‘The Wind That Shakes the Barley’.

The IFTA Film & Drama Awards will take place on Sunday, May 24 – check out the full list of nominees here.
