‘Darkness on the Edge of Town’ acquired by CinemaVault at Slamdance 2015
03 Feb 2015 : Seán Brosnan
Cinema Vault will be launching ‘Darkness on the Edge of Town’ at the 2015 Berlinale European Film Market
Following it’s sold out US premiere at the Slamdance Film Festival, Irish Indie Western ‘Darkness on the Edge of Town’ has been acquired by international distributor CinemaVault.

The film was written and directed by Patrick Ryan and produced by Lagoon Pictures. The DOP was Tommy Fitzgerald and the producer was Lisa Mackintosh while the film was edited by Conor Fitzpatrick – with sound being provided by Mick Duncan. The score was composed by Alex Ryan. Production designer on the project was Aoife Murray with Tania Persechini and Julie Caulfield contributing to Costume Design and MakeUp/Hair respectively.

The revenge thriller stars Emma Eliza Regan, Emma Willis and Brian Gleeson. Filmed in Co. Kerry, ‘Darkness’ premiered at the 2014 Galway Film Fleadh and tells the story of a troubled teenage sharpshooter who strives to avenge the death of her estranged sister after she is found murdered in a public bathroom.

Based in Canada and specialising in diverse and distinctive independent feature films, CinemaVault - - whose distinguished catalogue includes the 2015 Academy Award nominee ‘Tangerines’ - is a well-established presence on the international sales circuit.

They will be launching ‘Darkness on the Edge of Town’ at the 2015 Berlinale European Film Market. Just prior to Slamdance, the filmmakers teamed up with American sales agent Traction Media (‘Short Term 12’, ‘Half Nelson’, ‘Hard Candy’), and are currently negotiating a distribution deal for the US and Canadian markets, with a view to limited theatrical release and VOD.

‘Darkness’ continues its film festival run at the San Francisco IndieFest (5th to 19th February), with more US and European festival screenings to follow throughout 2015.

Director Patrick Ryan said: ‘We’re thrilled to take this film to the next stage. The response has been better than we ever expected or hoped and to have it complete its journey with worldwide distribution is a real validation. Not to mention exciting.’
