The Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT) Television Drama and Crime Fiction Symposium presented by National Film School & Department of Humanities & Arts Management will bring academics, practitioners and policy-makers together to provide a forum for an engaged and timely debate from diverse perspectives on television drama in Ireland in the 21st century.
The symposium will cover ‘from local to global’, ‘art, aesthetic and narrative’, as well as ‘the real and the imagined’ as themes. The conference will be of interest to students, researchers, academics, practitioners and policy-makers in the field of television drama, film and media studies.
A full agenda will be published closer to the event but highlights include:
- ‘Love/Hate’ round table discussion – Thursday 6pm – 8pm
- Debates / Panels / Q & A / Key-note – Friday 9am – 5.30pm
Speakers and participants confirmed to date include: Prof. Jonathan Bignell, University of Reading; Stuart Carolan (writer/creator of ‘Love / Hate’); actor John Connors (‘Love/Hate, ‘King of the Travellers’); Paul Duane (writer of ‘Amber’); Jane Gogan (Head of Drama, RTÉ); director Neasa Hardiman; James Hickey (Irish Film Board); Dr. Conn Holohan - NUIG; journalist Eoin Harris; writer James Mavor; Suzanne McAuley (producer - ‘Love / Hate’); Máire Ní Chonláin, Commissioning Editor of TG4; Prof Eva Novrup Redvall, University of Copenhagen; and Dr Lindsay Steenberg, Oxford Brookes University.
The conference will run on the 27th and 28th November 2014.
