Ireland’s first dedicated visual effects school now open for business
15 Sep 2014 : Jason Gaffney
Image Ireland is Ireland’s first dedicated Visual Effects School and the first Foundry-authorised Nuke training centre. It is a provider of courses preparing students of all ages for a career in the games, visual effects and animation industries.

IFTN caught up with Stephen Lohan, company director, this week to discuss what exactly sets Image Ireland apart: “Image Ireland is a community of working professionals and trainers – based on a community spirit as opposed to a business that employs. Our trainers are part of our community focus and that in itself is different because everyone involved cares deeply about visual effects.

“We identified a gap in the market whereby artists and working professionals can now work directly, in most cases 1-on-1, with students and that is what distinguishes Image Ireland”.

Image Ireland will aim to foster creative thinking and provide students with an intensive, relevant and rewarding education in the art of Visual communication. Under the guidance of practicing professionals we encourage our students to build practical foundations, while expanding their vision and exploring new avenues of expression.

Stephen discusses some of the tutors Irish students can look forward to engaging with: “We have Ian Murphy (‘Harry Potter’, ‘Green Zone’) coming from London to train our students. One course of particular note is the ZBrush course with Glen Southern (Last Days on Mars, Ripper Street) – one of the top ZBrush artists in the world.

By ensuring their students work with the most experienced professionals working today, their expertise will give students the practical foundations they need to become valuable members of the creative community. Stephen gives us an insight into what students can expect on a day-to-day basis:

“The students will experience 100 hours+ over 4 weeks. The training will be intensive; they will receive plenty of studio time as well as detailed feedback from their trainers. We will be keeping our classes small - 6 students per class - as we feel a responsibility to the industry to provide the best training to a few ensuring their recruitment prospects are maximised following their time with Image Ireland and make them valuable to the industry”.

Stephen and Image Ireland are now inviting people who would like to be part of the Image Ireland experience to please take that first step and contact them today at 016751787 or info@imageireland.ie.
