Irish indie movie ‘The O’Brien’s' has secured a deal with international video-on-demand streaming channel.
Written by Irish actors Slaine Kelly and Emmett Hughes, the heartfelt Irish comedy has already been acknowledged internationally at the Idyllwild International Film Festival in January where it won for best ensemble cast and the audience award for best film. ‘The O’Brien’s’ has also won the outstanding award for filmmaking at its international premier at Newport Beach Film Festival, Los Angeles last June.
The indie comedy has landed the number two spot on Amazon in the comedy movies section.
Directed by Richard Waters, the film is produced by Fionn O'Brien, Ciara Byrne, Richard Kearney and Alison Scarff of Mist Media. Music is by Nicky Royston and cinematography by David Laird. Irish artists Paddy Casey and Roisin O also provided original music for the soundtrack.
Filmed on location in Galway, the film boasts an impressive cast of up-and-coming Irish actors including Amber Jean Rowan (Vikings, Ripper Street), Slaine Kelly (The Tudors, Raw), Liam McMahon (Hunger, Snatch), Lochlann O'Mearain (Ros Na Run, The Clinic), Kellie Blaise (The Borgias, The Inside), Tommy O’Neill (The General, Veronica Guerin) and Paddy C. Courtney (Shameless, Roy).
The Irish rom-com follows a typical Irish family returning to their Galway home, two years after the death of their mother. Their father brings them together for an announcement, causing all to fear the worst, but he is not the only one harbouring a secret.
