Sky has revealed that more than 3000 Irish customers a week are connecting their Sky+HD boxes to broadband to access Ireland’s biggest Catch Up TV service and hundreds of movies on demand.
Sky’s On Demand service launched just over a year ago and this week saw the addition of UKTV channels Dave, Gold, Watch and Alibi to its Catch Up TV service.
These follow channels including Sky 1, Sky Living, Sky Atlantic, Sky Arts, TV3, Discovery Channel, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon and many more to make a total of 47 channels for Sky customers to view at no extra cost.
Sky has said that the total number of Sky+ HD boxes connected in Ireland now stands at over 112,000 boxes.
Mark Anderson from Sky said: “The rapid growth shows just how much customers love watching TV on their own terms - whether that’s the latest movies available instantly on demand on their living room TV set or to catch up with last night’s new drama series on the way to work.”
The addition of TV3 to Sky’s Catch Up service has proved popular with customers, with shows from the provider attracting over 12,000 weekly downloads. Soap lovers have particularly enjoyed the service with Coronation Street and Emmerdale proving the most downloaded TV3 shows on the service.
As the trend for on demand viewing continues to rise, this spring will see the biggest shake up to Sky’s electronic programme guide (EPG) making it even easier to find on demand content.
