Satirical comedy 'The Savage Eye' will return for a fourth season, which will begin filming next week.
Comedian David McSavage, previously known for his infamous improvised busking act on Dublin's Grafton Street, will return to our screens once more with his irreverent take on varied social issues in Ireland past and present, as wide-ranging as the Catholic Church and the Rose of Tralee.
Framed as a documentary made for British television, 'The Savage Eye' focuses on Irish society as subject of anthropological interest, and has seen the comic deliver controversial impersonations of various prominent figures in the Irish media, such as Joe Duffy and Pat Kenny.
The series was originally commissioned in 2009 as part of RTÉ's 'Project Ha Ha' slate, and over three seasons has garnered a number of awards for its often-divisive satire, receiving IFTA nominations for each series and taking home the Bronze Torc Award from the 2011 Celtic Media Festival.
As well as McSavage himself, the series features a number of Irish comedians in both writing and starring roles, such as Pat McDonnell ('Naked Camera'), Dermot McMorrow ('Emily's Song') and John Colleary, both of whom have also featured in 'Irish Pictorial Weekly', another satirical comedy produced for RTÉ.
Produced by Blinder Films, the series is directed by Damien O' Donnell ('East is East', 'Inside I'm Dancing') and has featured three seasons to date.
The fourth season will clock in at six episodes, dealing with themes ranging from War and Childhood to the Universe, and is expected to air in Spring 2014.
