Dublin actor Emmett Scanlan has been cast in BBC Three’s post-apocalyptic zombie drama ‘In The Flesh’, which returns for a second series following a successful three-part run earlier this year.
Scanlan, who is best known for playing Brendan Brady in ‘Hollyoaks’, also recently announced that he would reprise his role in BBC Northern Ireland’s ‘The Fall’, which resumes production on season two in February.
‘In The Flesh’ follows young Kieren Walker who suffers from ‘Partially Deceased Syndrome’ - as a former zombie who is partly cured by medical science - in a Britain still reeling from the aftermath of a zombie uprising.
Scanlan’s character Simon is described as a disciple of the ‘Undead Prophet’ in the forthcoming series.
Other new and returning cast members include Wunmi Mosaku (‘Philomena’, ‘Citadel’), Emily Bevan (‘The Thick of It’, ‘St Trinian’s’), Harriet Cains (‘Doctors’) and Kenneth Cranham (‘Layer Cake’, ‘Hot Fuzz’).
Emmett Scanlan was nominated for the IFTA Rising Star award last year and starred in the titular role of Irish film ‘Charlie Casanova’, which was nominated for a further four IFTAs including Best Film.
He will reunite with ‘Charlie Casanova’ director Terry McMahon for the Irish Film Board-funded ‘Patrick’s Day’, which is currently in post-production and aiming for a 2014 release.
