‘Penny Dreadful’, Oscar-winner John Logan’s new Victorian ‘psychosexual’ horror series set to film at Ardmore Studios from October, has cast its Victor Frankenstein with ‘The Lone Ranger’ & ‘Control’ actor Harry Treadaway.
Treadaway also appeared in ‘City of Ember’ which was filmed at Paint Hall Studios in Belfast in 2008, alongside Saoirse Ronan and Bill Murray.
The Showtime series will feature the origin stories of some of horror literature’s most famous characters - with recent cast additions including Reeve Carney as Dorian Grey and Timothy Dalton as Sir Malcolm, a hardened African explorer.
Josh Hartnett and Eva Green were the first big name announcements for the series, which will shoot at Ardmore Studios in Bray and locations around Dublin from October 2013 to March 2014.
Hollywood director Juan Antonio Bayona (‘The Orphanage’, ‘The Impossible’) will helm the first two episodes, with Irish crew members including Limerick conceptual artist Norman Walshe and Art Director Conor Dennison.
Other confirmed cast members include Billie Piper (‘Doctor Who’, ‘Secret Diary of a Call Girl’) and Rory Kinnear (‘Skyfall’,’ Quantum of Solace’).
‘Penny Dreadful’ is produced by John Logan (‘Gladiator’, ‘Skyfall’); Sam Mendes (‘American Beauty’, ‘Skyfall’) and Pippa Harris (‘Revolutionary Road’).
As IFTN recently reported, the production is aiming to raise €33 million of its budget from investors benefiting from Section 481 tax incentives, with Mazars and Clancy & Associates accountants hired by Octagon Films to raise the funds.
