The GAZE International LGBT Film Festival takes place in the Light House Cinema from 1 to 5 Aug.
Ireland’s longest running LGBT film event, this year’s GAZE celebrates the 30th anniversary of the first Dublin Gay Pride March as well as the 20th anniversary of the decriminalisation of homosexuality in Ireland.
The lineup features Irish and international films, including opening film ‘Animals’ by first-time filmmaker Marcal Forés, James Franco’s ‘Interior Leather Bar’ and the closing night film Jeffrey Schwarz’s ‘I Am Divine’.
‘Animals’ blurs the lines between fantasy and reality through Pol, an introverted music fan who still has conversations with his imaginary friend and teddy bear Deerhoof.
The festival will also feature ‘Interior Leather Bar’ starring James Franco as himself working on a film project while exploring his sexuality.
Other highlights include ‘Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer’, a HBO documentary telling the story of the Russian feminist rock group arrested for hooliganism motivated by religious hatred after a performance in Moscow’s Cathedral of Christ the Saviour.
The closing night documentary ‘I Am Divine’ follows the life of Harris Glenn Mistead, aka Divine, in a biographical portrait telling his story from the early days as a misfit youth in Baltimore to his rise as a cult superstar.
The festival runs from the 1st to the 5th of Aug at Light House Cinema.
