Stephen Rea and Liam Cunningham headline Ford Actors Discussion this Sun 9th June in the Shelbourne Hotel
06 Jun 2013 : By Kevin Cronin
Actors Discussion Panel, part of John Ford Ireland Symposium.
Actors Stephen Rea and Liam Cunningham, Eileen Walsh, Martin McCann and Charlie Murphy will participate on an Irish actors’ panel discussion this Sunday at 2pm in the Shelbourne hotel, as part of the John Ford Ireland Symposium, chaired by director Neasa Hardiman.

John Ford’s collaboration with actors and his mastery of visual storytelling will form the focus of the discussion, with the panel consisting of IFTA winners Stephen Rea (The Crying Game) Liam Cunningham (Hunger, The Wind that Shakes the Barley), Eileen Walsh (‘Pure Mule’, ‘The Magdalene Sisters’); Martin McCann (‘Jump’, ‘Shadow Dancer’ and ‘The Pacific’); and Charlie Murphy (‘Love/Hate’, ‘Ripper Street’).

Ford’s early love of the theatre informed his respect for the craft of acting, which carried through to his film career and influenced his long-time filmmaking partnerships with such Hollywood luminaries as John Wayne, James Stewart and Maureen O’Hara.

John Ford’s admiration for the Abbey theatre also resulted in him bringing several Abbey players over to Hollywood following a 1935 tour of the plays of Sean O’Casey - helping launch the film careers of stars such as Sara Allgood, Barry Fitzgerald and Arthur Shields in films including ‘The Long Way Home’, ‘How Green Was My Valley’, ‘She Wore a Yellow Ribbon’ and ‘The Quiet Man’.

‘Ford & Actors Discussion: The Actor, the craft, and the director collaboration’ will take place this Sunday 9th June at 2pm in the Shelbourne Hotel, Dublin.
