Network Ireland Television, Dublin-based independent film and TV distributors, have just secured three major international deals, involving a total of 50 Irish produced shorts - licensing these films for North and South America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
The biggest is with ‘Shorts TV’ in the USA, which is acquiring a package of 46 films in total, 32 of which are Irish produced, for their US cable channel commencing in June – followed by the EMEA territories later this year.
Latin America’s ‘Turner TV’ has also licensed 11 short films, 8 of which are Irish, for their Pan South American feeds, starting in October.
Finally, HBO Europe is licensing a total of 13 films from NITV’s catalogue, 10 of which are Irish, for their Eastern European platforms, also starting in October.
Derry O’Brien, Managing Director of NITV, described these sales as a real bonus for the company in the international marketplace.
‘Of the 70 films in total that we have licensed to these broadcast clients, 50 of them are Irish produced. This is indicative of the overall quality of the Irish short films that are currently being made here,’ he said. ‘We are very encouraged by these deals and are optimistic that we will close several more before the year end.’
