IFTA and Golden Globe winning ‘Tudors’ star Jonathan Rhys Meyers will be back on our TV screens as ‘Dracula’ this autumn on Sky Living, and a trailer has just been released containing our first glimpse of NBC’s version of the iconic character.
A British-American co-production with London based carnival films, the 10 part series will see the Cork actor disguise himself as an American businessman called Alexander Grayson (a.k.a. Dracula) in 19th century Victorian London where he encounters a woman who appears to be the reincarnation of his dead wife.
While attempting to bring modern science and electricity to London – as artificial light will make life easier for vampires - he plots revenge against his old enemies and is himself pursued by Van Helsing.
The showrunner on the 'Gothic Romance' - which was filmed in Budapest in February and March this year - is Dan Knauf, creator of HBO’s ‘Carnivale’.
Irish actress Victoria Smurfit (The Clinic) also co-stars, along with Thomas Kretschmann (King Kong), Jessica De Gouw (Arrow), Oliver Jackson-Cohen (Mr. Selfridge), Nonso Anozie (Game of Thrones) and Katie McGrath (Merlin).
The series is directed by Andy Goddard (Downton Abbey) and produced by Christopher Hall (Brassed Off).
