Former CEO and programmer of the Cork Film Festival, Mick Hannigan and Úna Feely officially launched the new IndieCork Film Festival in the Bodega in Cork this week and are now accepting submissions for the inaugural event set for 16-20th October.
IndieCork are welcoming film entries in all categories and genres - with no entry fee - before the 29th July deadline.
In a major coup for the festival, Palmes d'Or winning director Ken Loach was recently appointed honorary patron of the festival, with Seven Windows independent craft brewery now also onboard as sponsors.
Adopting a new membership model, the festival will be collectively owned by its patrons and remains committed to its goal of championing independent cinema.
Mr Loach is set to begin principal photography on his next film ‘Jimmy’s Hall’ at locations in Leitrim and Sligo this summer, focusing on famous Leitrim socialist Jim Gralton - the only Irishman ever to be deported by the State for his political beliefs.
The film will be produced by Ken Loach's regular collaborator, Sixteen Films’ producer Rebecca O’Brien, and Element Pictures, based on a screenplay by Mr Loach and Paul Laverty which was inspired by Donal O’Kelly’s play ‘Jimmy Gralton’s Dancehall’.
