The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland has launched its 2013 Community Broadcasting Support Scheme, consisting of a total fund allocation of €30,000 made available for the operation and funding of the scheme.
The aim of the scheme is to enable community radio and television broadcasters to evaluate and review the operation and effectiveness of their services.
Michael O’Keeffe, Chief Executive of the BAI, expressed confidence in this year’s scheme.
‘Once again, the BAI is delighted to provide funding support to the community broadcasting sector through this Scheme. We believe that it will be of great value to the successful applicants in the evaluation and development of their services,’ Mr O’Keefe said.
The evaluations can address either internal issues (regarding organisation or governance matters) or focus on external issues, such as aiding a community broadcaster to look more closely at target audiences within their franchise area.
This year the scheme requires applicants to underpin their evaluation with one or more of the strategic themes set out in the BAI's sectoral learning and development policy, explained in full on their website.
This policy provides the framework to enable the BAI to strategically plan, support, measure, and evaluate the continued growth of the broadcasting sector through a variety of training and development activities within its statutory remit.
The five strategic themes, as detailed in the policy, follow consultation with relevant stakeholders within the broadcasting sector.
