The Directors Guild Trust and the Directors Guild of Great Britain will host an “Introduction to Tools of Directing” seminar for directors and director/producers in various stages of their filmmaking career
Formed in 1984, The Directors Guild Trust is the charity arm of the Directors Guild of Great Britain, the only organization of its kind in the UK to represent directors across all media.
The seminar is part of the Tools of Directing UK 2013 tour, funded by Creative Skillset, which will be delivered in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland in March and April 2013 by the Directors Guild. It is followed by a Bursary Scheme that brings a limited number of applicants to London in the summer for the full week for the Tools of Directing Master Workshop (24-28 June).
Successful applicants for the Master Workshop will get close to £1,200 of training for £160. This training scheme is funded by the Creative Skillset Film Skills Fund as part of “A Bigger Future”, the UK Film skills strategy.
The seminar offers participants an introduction to Simon's ground-breaking techniques, bringing new insight and clarity to the complex task of directing and giving directors their own unique methodology. It focuses on the fantastic “Tools of Directing” - a practical approach to directing that significantly improves creativity and reduces time and money spent in development, rehearsals and shooting.
“Tools of Directing” doesn't depend on theories of writing or acting, but is specifically dedicated to the director's craft. It uses practical, repeatable methods that Simon has developed over ten years working as a directing coach in film and television for creative TV and Film directors, who know they still need specific, effective tools to make their story great.
Simon Phillips is a Direction Coach for feature film and high level TV directors, including directors of the recent Scandinavian series, “The Killing” and “The Bridge”. Oscar and Emmy award-winning professional writers, directors and producers have worked with Simon's unique approach.
It will take place in the Queens Film Theatre in Belfast on Saturday 6 April from 1 – 5pm.
