Guth Gafa International Doc Fest is calling for feature documentary entries for this year’s festival, with the deadline March 15.
The seventh festival will take place in Malin, Inishowen in Donegal from May 16-19.
Every year Guth Gafa screens a programme of the best Irish feature documentaries, alongside its international programme. Guth Gafa will accept any Irish feature documentaries on any subjects completed since January 2012, and will also consider 52-minute documentaries on human rights, social action and environmental issues that have not yet been broadcast.
Festival director David Rane says: “The Irish programme is a critical part of Guth Gafa's success. Every year we show multi award-winning docs from around the world, and the international directors are usually in attendance to present their work, and yet it is the Irish docs that always sell out first, and these are the films that many of our audience, including international visitors, want to see.
“Guth Gafa is now recognised on the international circuit as a festival that should not be missed, so the profile of our programme is high. We're hoping that Irish filmmakers will respond by sending us their work for this year's festival.”
Festival organisers have also announced an early bird accreditation discount of 75 per cent, for anyone planning to attend the four-day festival. The discounted rate is €20, and is available until Monday, March 4.
Rane added: “Without the support and attendance of documentary professionals and the wider film and TV communities, Guth Gafa could not do what we do - bring top filmmakers and industry experts from around the world to Ireland. We are the only independent documentary festival in Ireland, the only human rights and social action film festival in Ireland, and one of only a handful of village-based festivals in Europe, and our industry accreditation deal is a real bargain.”
Previous festivals have attracted top industry professionals, such as Patricia Finneran from the Sundance Film Institute and Alan Maher from the IFB. This year the festival is partnering with the City of Culture Derry-Londonderry, and organisers promise the biggest and best lineup yet.
