Irish animation ‘The Amazing World of Gumball’ won the Kids Animation Award at last weekend’s International Emmy Kids Awards.
The live-action series, co-produced by Dublin’s Boulder Media and Cartoon Network Development Studio Europe, follows the comedic adventures of a 12 year-old cat named Gumball, as he explores his weird town of Elmore. Gumball’s friends include a tyrannosaurus rex, a cheerleading peanut, and a banana.
The inaugural International Emmy Kids Awards were held in New York last Friday, during an awards-filled weekend, with the IFTAs, the BAFTAs and the Grammys all held the same week.
Boulder Media share the Emmy Award with Ben Bocquelet, Mic Graves and Joanna Beresford of Cartoon Network Europe, in association with Dandelion Studios and Studio Soi/Cartoon Network UK.
Boulder’s founder and creative director, Emmy-nominated animator Robert Cullen, said: “We're over the moon with the Emmy and are very proud to be part of such a great show. We're very lucky to have such a talented and hard-working crew at Boulder so it's wonderful to see their work being recognised with such a prestigious award.
“This means so much for the industry here. For such a small country Irish animation has achieved so much internationally which is something for everyone to be proud of”.
Brown Bag Films’ ‘Octonauts’ was also nominated in the Preschool category, but narrowly missed out to Disney’s ‘El Jardín de Clarilú’.
‘The Amazing World of Gumball’ airs its third season of 20 episodes on Cartoon Network later this year.
