Fingal Film Festival Returning With New Slate Of Events
04 Feb 2013 : By Eva Hall
Fingal Film Festival will take place in May
The Fingal Film Festival has announced its deadline for submissions is Friday March 15.

The 2013 festival will take place from May 8-10 in Dublin, with festival organisers teasing a taster of this year’s programme.

As well as traditional Fingal events, such as industry masterclasses and the annual awards ceremony, new highlights include a showcase of the latest technology and equipment, which will be demonstrated by industry professionals. This will be topped off with a new designated networking segment, where filmmakers will get a chance to meet with other industry professional and discuss potential future projects.

Also being introduced at the 2013 festival is the new Student Award, which is open to short films and documentaries, as well as a feedback option, where submitted films can receive feedback on the project.

Creative director of the festival, Dave Byrne, says: “We feel it is important to offer this option to emerging filmmakers as it can give them a great insight and help them perfect their skillset when producing future work”.

Also on the agenda is an eclectic mix of shorts, features, animations and documentaries from both Ireland and abroad.

This year, Oscar-nominated animation company Brown Bag Films is supporting the festival by facilitating two animation workshops that are both designed specifically for young filmmakers with a passion for animation.

Managing director of the festival Liz Kenny says organisers will be announcing “an amazing line up of industry professionals who will be facilitating this year’s workshops. The organisers advise people to keep an eye on the website as places for these workshops are limited and will fill up fast.”

Last year’s festival saw high profile filmmakers such as BAFTA-winning writer/director Aisling Walsh (Song for a Raggy Boy), producer Arthur Lappin (My Left Foot), actor Martin McCann (Killing Bono) and LA film composer Joseph Conlon (Behind Enemy Lines Columbia) attend.

The 2013 Final Film festival takes place from May 8-10 at the Odeon Cinema and the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Blanchardstown.
