Something as logical as combining camera and crew transportation may seem obvious to anyone working in the film and television industry, yet it wasn’t until 2012 that one industry member not only came up with the idea, but decided to make a thriving business out of it.

Lally, an assistant cameraman who has worked in the industry for almost 10 years, has spent the last year transporting Ireland’s top directors, producers, talent & camera crews to filming locations throughout Ireland, while ensuring their equipment never left their side, with his new venture, Movecrew.

Movecrew has been at the heart of some of the most successful Irish sets of the last few years, from RTÉ series ‘The Secret Millionaire’, to Animo Productions’ ‘Celebrity Bainisteoir’, as well as working alongside ‘Glee’ DOP Michael Goi ASC, Ruth Mc Nally, award winning director Gary Keane and many more leading industry professionals.

Movecrew offers a one-stop shop where up to seven crew members can travel in Lally’s customised van, as well as all relevant equipment needed for a high quality shoot. Lally serves as the designated driver, and is also on hand as an experienced camera assistant.

Movecrew can travel anywhere in Ireland and the UK, and can also be used as a recce vehicle for projects. Lally’s extensive industry experience, which has seen him take on the role of runner and PA, clapper loader and even stage manager, qualifies him to assist in shoots as well as share his expertise on locations.

The Dundalk-native says of his new business: “I set up Movecrew in May because I saw a need for this type of service. The last six months has been really exciting. I find freelancers in the industry are now, more than ever, looking out for each other and willing to point others in the direction of each other’s work.”

“Movecrew offers a fresh, new service to the industry - a service that has proven benefits,” adds Lally, “ a service which negates the need for coordinating large amounts of vehicles on the road, and this in turn saves on time and on budget, but also increases productivity while getting to your location.”
