Declan Recks will give a camera masterclass tomorrow
IFTA-winning director Declan Recks will give the Cinema EOS Masterclass tomorrow at the Corona Cork Film Festival.

The former ‘The Clinic’ and ‘Pure Mule’ director will be on hand at Cork’s new Studio 5108 on Monahan Road to talk budding filmmakers through the video technology of the Canon EOS, EOS 650D and the award-winning EOS C300.

Recks will present on his recent experience of shooting his latest production on the Canon EOS C300, from a creative and technical point of view from shoot to the final grade.

Recks has extensive experience in the television industry, having worked on BBC show ‘Any Time Now’, RTÉ shows ‘Pure Mule’ (for which he won a Best Director IFTA in 2005) and ‘The Clinic’, TG4 series ‘The Running Mate’ and the Hallmark TV movie ‘Three Wise Women’.

This year’s Canon masterclass has been organised by the Cork Screen Commission, which is jointly funded by Cork City and County Councils, in association with D+P Multimedia equipment suppliers and Studio 5108.

Niall Mahoney, Cork Screen Commissioner, commented on the masterclass: “These new generation of cameras are rapidly leading to the breakdown of traditional distinctions between ‘professional film makers’ and ‘ordinary people’, allowing new voices and ideas to enter the mainstream, global world and international audiences. With so many different ways to view things, from iPads to laptops and even smartphones, even the terms ‘film’ or ‘TV programme’ are changing, with many broadcasters, for example, referring to programmes simply as ‘content’.”

The Corona Cork Film Festival kicked off on Sunday, with a live tweet screening called ‘42nd Tweet’ – the idea of which was to encourage tweeters to use the social media site to engage with the filmmakers whose work they were watching.

The festival runs until November 18, and as already outlined on IFTN, will host a number of industry events, such as an informative discussion with ‘Dollhouse’ director Kirsten Sheridan, a writers panel with ‘Grabbers’ filmmaker Kevin Lehane, and a post-production workshop with Screen Scene chief Jim Duggan.

Places on the Canon masterclass are limited, so contact Niall Mahoney on info@corkscreencommission to book a place. The event is on tomorrow (Wednesday November 14) from 3-6pm at Studio 5108 on Monahan Road in Cork.
