Irish Doc on George Clooney to Preview Next Month
26 Oct 2012 : By Steve Cummins
‘George Clooney’s Irish Roots’ will receive its Irish premiere next month
A feature-length documentary on Hollywood actor George Clooney’s Irish roots is to be previewed at the Waterford Film Festival next month.

Olympia Films has recently completed post-production on ‘George Clooney’s Irish Roots’ and will screen a 20-minute preview of the documentary in Waterford on Friday November 9.

Written and directed by Gabriel Murray, the documentary was shot on-location in Kilkenny, Laois, Waterford as well as Kentucky in the US.

The doc traces the emigration of George Clooney’s Irish ancestor Nicholas Clooney from Kilkenny to Kentucky during the famine of 1847. It also involved an intensive search for his Irish links, as well as the discovery of Georges Clooney’s ancestral home.

The film centres around Fiona Clooney who made contact with George’s father in 2008 when he came to Ireland in search of his Irish roots. It also includes interviews with Bono, George Clooney historians Professor Walter Walsh and Joseph Kennedy and Clooney’s long lost cousins.

Yvette Hoyle produced alongside executive producers Pat Power and Michael Watchorn. Andy Ring was an associate producer.

Director of photography Gary Finnegan shot the doc alongside David Stokes with Antony Kelly editing at O’Ceallaigh Post.

The documentary will be distributed worldwide by LA-based Camelot Distribution, and features a soundtrack with contributions from The Corrigans, Abbeyfolk, Louise Florence, The Fenians and Rosemary Clooney.

A preview of ‘George Clooney’s Irish Roots’ will be screened at the Waterford Film Festival at 7.30pm on November 9.
