Irish filmmakers hoping to screen their work at the prestigious SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas, are now invited to submit their work.
SXSW is now accepting both narrative and documentary feature-length films over 40 minutes in length for inclusion in the festival as well as shorts, music videos and title sequences.
The highly anticipated festival – which was previously best known as a music showcase event – has now also become a major festival on the international film festival calendar where filmmakers, distributors, media, programmers, screenwriters and film fans network.
Each year an Irish delegation travel over to the festival with Enterprise Ireland hosting a stand in the market. Previous Irish films that have screened at the festival under the Irish Film Board and EI banner include ‘Outcast’, ‘Citadel’, ‘Dollhouse’ and ‘Foxes’.
Terry McMahon’s ‘Charlie Casanova’ also enjoyed great success at the 2011 festival where it was the first non-American film to be selected in six years for the Narrative Feature Competition and the first Irish film ever selected for the competition.
For this year’s submission in the feature-length films SXSW will not accept trailers or rough assemblies, but will accept work-in-progress cuts (picture lock with temp sound, color, etc).
The late deadline for feature length films is next Thursday (November 1) while a last minute deadline has been set for November 15.
For more information on costs, how to apply and other deadlines see the SXSW website www.sxsw.com.
