Northern Irish-based films ‘Shadow Dancer’ and ‘Good Vibrations’ have picked up awards at the Dinard British Film Festival in France.
‘Shadow Dancer’, directed by Oscar-winner James Marsh, picked up the Grand Jury Prize for the Golden Hitchcock Award and the Prix Public, which was voted by the audience.
The film was shot in Dublin last year and stars Clive Owen as a MI5 member looking to recruit IRA-attached Andrea Riseborough as an informer. David Wilmot, Domhnall Gleeson and Aidan Gillen all star.
‘Good Vibrations’, directed by husband and wife Glenn Leyburn and Lisa Barros D’Sa from a script by Glenn Patterson and Colin Carberry, won the Allianz Award for Best Screenplay.
The film is based on the life of Belfast DJ Terri Hooley, who opened a record store at the height of the Troubles in the 70s to instil some musical inspiration in the youth at the time. Richard Dormer plays Hooley.
Other winners include British film ‘ill Manors’, from rapper turned actor Ben Drew (Plan B), which picked up the Heartbeat Award and the Technicolour Award.
