Rory Gilmartin, the head of development at Brilliant Films, has been appointed project manager for the Irish Film Board and will take up the role from mid-November.
The Dubliner will leave his post at UK-based Brilliant Films after five years heading up their production and development activities and working closely with the UK talent agency, Independent Talent.
He also works as a consultant for New Legacy Film and previously held positions at Impact Pictures and Harbour Pictures.
Brilliant’s development slate includes projects from directors Martin Campbell (Casino Royale), Mike Newell (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire), Jonathan Glazer (Sexy Beast) and Neil LaBute (Death at a Funeral).
Gilmartin is one of three project managers that will be appointed by the IFB as part of a new restructuring move. The remaining two positions will be filled early next year.
Their role will be to manage projects across all genres from the initial concept and development through production financing to cinema release and other exhibition to Irish and international audiences.
Commenting on the appointment, James Hickey, CEO of the Irish Film Board said Gilmartin’s “knowledge and understanding in the areas of development and production and his experience of working with creative talent will be of enormous benefit to the agency and the Irish film industry”.
Gilmartin added “I’m hugely excited to embark on this new role at the Irish Film Board, and look forward to working with James, the rest of the Film Board team, and the fantastic pool of creative talent the Irish film industry possesses.”
