Sony is targeting filmmakers and broadcasters with its latest camcorders and equipment, the NEX-EA50EH, the PMW-150 50mbps HD422 handheld camcorder and the PMW-50 SxS Field Gear.

The NEX-EA50EH, from the NXCAM range, is a new camcorder which offers filmmakers extra flexibility in the lens selection due to its interchangeable E-mount lens system. The large format Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor gives the user creative freedom when shooting full HD films and high-quality still photos.

The new form factor enables users to shoot in a way that suits them best, allowing them to switch quickly between handheld and shoulder configuration without the need for additional accessories, according to Sony.

“This all-in-one camcorder brings a new level of creativity to a wider range of professional users than ever before,” said Bill Drummond, strategic marketing manager at Professional Solutions Europe of Sony Europe. “It combines affordability and high performance with a range of versatile, professional features for many applications, including event production, budget movie making and corporate production.”

By capturing 16.1 megapixel still pictures with RAW format support, the Exmor APS HD CMOS camcorder offers higher picture quality and rich post-processing capabilities. Its sensor produces high quality, creative images for film with low noise, making it ideal for film sets.

In addition, the NEX-EA50EH has a built-in mechanical shutter to realise high-speed shutter while capturing still pictures. The camcorder incorporates the Sony E-mount interchangeable lens system, which enables auto focus, auto exposure and stabilisation during shooting. With its short flange back distance, it is possible to attach both established A-mount lenses via the LA-EA2 lens mount adapter, and an unrivalled choice of other brands lenses using third-party adapters.

The NEX-EA50EH will be available from Sony Professional Solutions Specialists in October 2012. For more information on the PX Series, please visit: www.sony.net.

As part of its XDCAM HD422 range, Sony launched the new PMW-150 50mbps HD422 handheld camcorder. The camcorder comes equipped with 3x Full HD 1/3-inch Exmor CMOS sensors and a 20x zoom lens.

The PMW-150 is capable of shooting in 1080/50i, 1080/25P, 720/50P, 720/25P or PAL. Genlock In and Time Code In/Out interfaces make the PMW-150 ideal for multi-camera environments. The camcorder also offers users unrivalled flexibility in recording media choice, operating with Sony’s professional SxS technology as well as other media such as SD, Memory Stick and XQD cards (adaptor required). A Wi-Fi remote control (adaptor required) for the PMW-150 enhances flexibility for studio or on-location use offering white balance and playback controls via compatible mobile devices like smartphones and tablets.

Also launched within the XDCAM HD422 range was the PMW-50 SxS Field Gear, a compact, fast and powerful portable companion for the shoulder-mount PMW-500 and the handheld PMW-100/150/200 camcorders.

The dual SxS slot, versatile connectivity and a 3.5” LCD panel allow for huge operational flexibility. Live-camera-feed recording, playback, file copying to media and external drives, in-field clip viewing, NLE editing and file transfer for DSNG transmission are just some of the functionalities the PMW-50 will offer to its users.

Bill Drummond of Sony Europe said of the latest products: “With fast file-based operation, codec efficiency and outstanding picture quality, XDCAM HD422 products are ideal for applications such as news gathering, when workflow speed is a key concern. They are equally invaluable when seeking a high-quality HD broadcast image without compromising production costs and efficiencies, for example in the production of TV documentaries and mainstream entertainment programs.”

The PMW-150 handheld camcorder is scheduled to be available in November 2012, and the PMW-50 SxS field gear is scheduled to be available in January 2013.
