Irish actor Emmett J Scanlan picked up two Inside Soap Awards last night for his role as Brendan Brady in Channel 4 soap ‘Hollyoaks’.
The Dublin-born actor won Best Actor and Best Bad Boy at the ceremony in London last night. He was nominated alongside ‘Emmerdale’ actor Steve Halliwell who plays Zak Dingle; ‘Coronation Street’ actor Chris Gascoyne who plays Peter Barlow; and Shane Richie, who plays Alfie Moon in ‘Eastenders’.

Scanlan has been trailblazing the awards circuit of late, with nominations in the TV Choice Awards last month, and a win for Best Actor at the Melbourne Film Festival earlier this month, for his role in ‘Charlie Casanova’. The feature, directed by Irishman Terry McMahon, also picked up Best Film and Best Director at the festival.
Scanlan previously picked up Villain of the Year and Best Newcomer at the 2011 British Soap Awards. Before he began playing Brendan Brady in ‘Hollyoaks’ in 2010, Scanlan had a number of roles in Irish series’, including ‘The Clinic’ and ‘Marú’. He will be seen next in BBC series ‘The Fall’, which was filmed in Northern Ireland with his fellow ‘Hollyoaks’ actor Gerard McCarthy.
Other winners at last night’s Inside Soap Awards include Gillian Wright, who picked up the Best Actress award for her role as Jean Slater in ‘Eastenders’, and Australian soap ‘Neighbours’, which won best Daytime Soap.
