Martin McDonagh’s ‘Seven Psychopaths’ and Irish co-production ‘Call Girl’ have both picked up awards at the Toronto International Film Festival, which concluded on Sunday.
McDonagh’s well-received comedy, starring Colin Farrell and Christopher Walken, picked up the People's Choice award for top Midnight Madness film.
‘Call Girl’, a political thriller directed by Sweden’s Mikael Marcimain, took the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) prize in the Discovery category.
Awarding the prize the jury said the feature, a co-production involving Ireland’s Newgrange Pictures, had an “intense sense of cinema reminiscent of the American thrillers of the 1970s”.
The film is a Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish and Irish co-production. It was made with the support of the Irish Film Board with post-production carried out at Windmill Lane VFX in Dublin.
