Irish directors Lenny Abrahamson, Lance Daly, Kirsten Sheridan and Ken Wardrop will each direct a 5-10 minute short for a collection of films on James Joyce’s ‘Dubliners’.
Dublin’s Fastnet Films is currently in development on the project, the idea for which it co-created with filmmaker Michael Kinirons. The project also has acclaimed writers Roddy Doyle and Mark O’Halloran on board.
Speaking to Screen Daily, Fastnet’s Macdara Kelleher said of the project: “The idea is to contemporise them and really be free. We want to keep the spirit and themes but then nothing is too sacred.”
Kelleher is currently in Toronto as part of the Toronto Producers Lab at TIFF 2012. He is set to co-produce ‘The F Word’ with Sheep Noir Films and No Tracing Camping when it shoots in Dublin at the end of month.
A number of UK and international directors are expected to join the ‘Dubliners’ project, but as of yet have not been announced.
