Element Pictures have appointed Mark Byrne as head of business affairs at the Dublin-based production company.
Byrne, formerly the Irish Film Board’s head of legal affairs, will take charge of all of Element’s business and legal affairs across all activities including development, production, distribution and exhibition.
A board member of the Irish Film Institute, Byrne had been with the IFB for the past six years. In 2005 he co-produced Brian Kirk’s debut feature film ‘Middletown,’ starring Matthew Macfadyen.
Speaking of the appointment, Element Pictures’ company directors Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe said they were “delighted to welcome Mark to the Element team”. They added: “We are confident that in his new role, Mark’s knowledge and experience will help him make a significant impact on the growth and development of the company.”
Byrne added that joining Element was an opportunity “I couldn’t resist”. He said: “From when I acted as production lawyer on ‘Adam and Paul’ in 2004, I have watched Element expand into an integrated media company including production, distribution and now exhibition. My six years with the Irish Film Board has honed skills which I hope to develop further at Element and ensure it continues to be highly successful in the years to come.”
