Irish actor Pierce Brosnan has been confirmed to star opposite Owen Wilson in forthcoming US thriller ‘The Coup,’ which will begin shooting in October.

The Navan-born actor will play a government spy in the action thriller, directed by John Erick Dowdle (Devil) from a script he co-wrote with his brother Drew Dowdle (Quarantine).

The plot has been compared to Liam Neeson’s ‘Taken’ and deals with an American family who move to Southeast Asia and find themselves entangled in a violent coup.

’The Coup’ will be produced by Adam Ripp and Rob Paris for Crime Scene Pictures, alongside Steve Alexander and Drew Dowdle.

Brosnan is also penciled in to star in the adaptation of English novelist Nick Hornby’s novel ‘A Long Way Down’ opposite Toni Collette. Shooting on that is due to get underway this summer.
