UTV’s John McCann has become the first person to receive the Irish Media Awards’ Media Pioneer Award.
McCann, the station’s chief executive, picked up the award in Dublin last week for his “truly outstanding contribution to the media industry on the island of Ireland,” according to the judging panel.
The panel said that the award is given to “someone who has made a revolutionary difference to the industry”. They added: “It is not about years of service but quality of contribution.”
McCann said: “I am absolutely delighted to be the recipient of the very first Media Pioneer Award, it is truly a great honour. I would like to thank The BrainFood Store and IMJ for setting up the Media Awards, the judges for selecting me and the team at UTV for all their hard work.”
The Irish Media Awards were set up by The BrainFood Store and the Irish Marketing Journal. They are open to media suppliers and owners, media buying and planning agencies and advertising agencies in all areas of the media.
