BAI Backs 24 TV Projects with €4.42m Funding
04 Apr 2012 : By Eva Hall
The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) has awarded a total of €4.42 million to 74 broadcasters and independent producers, it was announced yesterday. 24 television and 50 radio projects were chosen from 163 applications from Round 13 of the Broadcasting Funding Scheme.

Three television dramas, 18 documentaries, four entertainment shows and two educational shows were awarded funding. All projects are based on the theme of Irish culture, heritage and experience.

When the funded projects complete production, they will be broadcast by a range of community, commercial and public service broadcasters across Ireland.

Michael O’Keeffe, Chief Executive of the BAI, said of the announcement: “The BAI is pleased to see such a diverse range of programmes, in terms of genre and formats, being offered funding by the Scheme… The Authority considered the recommendations arising from the assessment process and ratified the allocation of extra funding over and above that planned in order to facilitate the production of these high quality projects in a timely manner”.

These recommendations were ratified by the BAI at its meeting on Monday, 2 April.

The next closing date for the applications to the Broadcasting Funding Scheme is Friday 13 April at 12pm. This round is open to both TV and radio applications.
