The National Student Media Awards 2012, known as the Smedias, have announced a new category added to the event this year. Best Written, Audio or Visual work on Science or Education has been introduced to the awards for the first time, and is sponsored by the Higher Education Authority.
The new category is open to any form of media, including work produced for television, radio, internet or print. This new addition means the deadline for all submissions has been extended to 02.00pm on Friday, 30th March.
Other categories open to film and television students include TV Production of the Year, Film Script of the Year, Drama or Documentary Television Production in the Irish language, and Short Film of the Year, which is sponsored by the Irish Film Board (IFB).
Television personalities Dáithí Ó’ Sé (The Daily Show) and Kathryn Thomas (The Voice of Ireland) hosted last year’s awards in front of a 600-strong crowd. Organisers Oxygen are hoping to attract a similar number to this year’s event which will be held at The Ballsbridge Hotel in Dublin on Thursday, 26th April. The shortlist for nominees will be announced at the beginning of April.
