Rising Irish director Gary Shore is set to direct Universal’s prequel ‘Dracula: Year Zero’. The short film director will take the reigns from ‘Knowing’ helmer Alex Proyas who has been toying with the film for some time before focusing on the ill fated 'Paradise Lost'.

The big budget pic takes its origins from the story of the Vlad ‘The Imapler’ Myth and how he became Dracula, the character made famous by Irish writer Bram Stoker. Sam Worthington (Avatar) was originally attached as the legendary vampire but industry reports suggest he has now exited the project.

Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless have penned the scrip with Michael De Luca (Moneyball) producing with Universal exec Kiska Higgs.

Gary Shore is among Ireland’s most promising new voices having piqued interest in 2010 with the trailer for his ‘Cup of Tears’ feature which is currently being developed by Universal and Working Title. The director was previously booked by Universal to film ‘Phasma Ex Machina’ remake ‘Our House’ but will now focus on bringing ‘Year Zero’ to fruition.

Here’s the ‘Cup of Tears’ trailer again to feast your eyes upon!
