Irish economist David McWilliams (Addicted to Money, In Search of the Popes Children), often touted as having predicted the crash of the Irish economy before anyone else, is now presenting and directing a new web-based series called ‘Punk Economics’
The aim of the series is it to bring economics back to the masses in a stripped back, simplified way. The first installment is currently online on YouTube and can you viewed here. All illustrations for the series are carried out by illustrator Mark Flood. The first episode took 9 hours to shoot with illustrator Mark Flood drawing on a whiteboard and then was edited for a further 4 days. All music within the webisodes are from Irish talent, with Rocketsurgery, The Eskies and James Guilmartin offering their songs for the first installment.
The production team plan to create weekly videos for the next few months of about six minutes in length. The series is written and directed by David McWilliams. It is produced by Mary Catherine Brouder and the production was assisted by Amanda Lynch and Jessica Heery. The videographers on the project were Traolach Ó Murchú, Daniel Craciun and Darren Farrell.
