Annie award winning animation director Brenda Chapman (Brave, The Prince of Egypt) is to take up a visiting fellowship at the National Film School in the Institute of Art, Design and Technology in Dún Laoghaire from 17th-27th February.
During this time the director will deliver a series of seminars, workshop and tutorials to NFS Animation undergraduates as well as a masterclass open to the Irish animation industry.
Brenda Chapman was the first woman to direct an animated feature from a major Hollywood studio, when she directed ‘The Prince of Egypt’ in 1998. Brenda is also the original writer and director of animated feature film ‘Brave’ but Mark Andrews (Violet, One Man Band) has since taken over the reigns of the Pixar. Chapman’s top animation credits include ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit?’ (inbetween artist), ‘Beauty and the Beast’ (writer, story), ‘The Lion King’ (story supervisor), and ‘Up’ (senior creative).
Creative Director of the National Film School Donald Taylor Black spoke about the announcement saying, “We are absolutely delighted that Brenda will be working with our students on our highly successful BA in Animation, which is unique in Ireland. She follows in the footsteps of the first NFS Visiting Fellow, Academy Award winner, John Canemaker, Professor of Animation at NYU. She will also deliver a National Film School Lecture during her residency.”
The National Film School Visiting Fellowship is supported by the Irish Film Board, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Visiting Artists Program, and Screen Training Ireland.
