The first season of hit HBO series ‘Game of Thrones’, which was filmed in Northern Ireland, has been nominated for a Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE) Golden Reel award for sound editing. The MPSE Golden Reel awards acknowledge the best work in the various areas of sound editing including Dialogue & ADR, Effects & Foley, and Music.
‘Game of Thrones’ has been nominated in two categories; the Best Sound Editing category and Best Sound Editing in Short Form Sound Effects and Foley in Television. This comes after the news that ‘Game of Thrones’ sound recordists Ronan Hill (‘Your Highness’, ‘Killing Bono’) and Mark Taylor (Unknown, Coriolanus) have also been nominated for a Cinema Audio Society Award for their work on the series.
The CAS awards recognise outstanding achievement in sound mixing for motion picture and television, and nominees and winners are chosen by written ballot by full CAS members. ‘Game of Thrones’ is nominated for the CAS Award against other popular shows like ‘Boardwalk Empire’, ‘Breaking Bad’, ‘Dexter’ and ‘The Walking Dead’.
The winners of the CAS Awards are revealed in a sealed envelope ceremony at the Cinema Audio Society Annual Awards Banquet on February 18th in the Crystal Ballroom, Millennium Biltmore Hotel in LA. The Motion Picture Sound Editor Awards take place on Saturday 19th of February at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel & Suites in
LA.
‘Game of Thrones’ has also nominated for Best Sound Film / TV Drama at this year’s Irish Film & Television Awards. The IFTAs take place in the Dublin Convention Centre on the 11th February and will be broadcast live on RTÉ One at 9.30pm GMT.
