‘Lay Your Head Down’ the song from Irish feature film ‘Albert Nobbs’ which stars Glen Close, as a woman who dresses as a man in 19th century Ireland in order to work, has been named as one of the 39 songs eligible for the 84th Academy Award for Original Song.
The category also includes song from ‘The Help’, ‘The Muppet Movie’, ‘Cars 2’ and ‘Gnomeo and Juliet’ among others.
‘Lay Your Head Down’ preformed by Irish singer Sinéad O’Connor and written by IFTA winning composer Brian Byrne and Glen Close (lyrics), was also nominated for a Golden Globe in November.
On 5th January the Academy will screen clips featuring each song, in random order, for voting members in Los Angeles. The Academy Awards will take place on the 26th February at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood and will be hosted by Billy Crystal.
