The Capital Irish Film Festival (CIFF), which begins today, will see a host of Irish talent and cinema screening across the Atlantic. The festival, which is run by Solas Nua, aims to highlight Irish cinematography in America, and takes place from the 1 – 10 December in Washington DC.
This year’s festival opens with Alexandra McGuinness’ debut directorial feature ‘The Lotus Eaters’ starring Antonia Campbell-Hughes, who will attend the festival’s opening gala as a special guest. Features to be screened at the festival include ‘Parked’ directed by Darragh Byrne, the IFTA winning ‘As If I Am Not There’ directed by Juanita Wilson, who will also be attending the festival, ‘Rewind’ by PJ Dillon and Tom Hall’s ‘Sensation’. Hall will also be attending the festival and hosting a Q+A session after the screening of his feature.
Lorna Fitzsimon’s ‘Meeting on the Stairs’ will have it’s U.S premiere at the festival and ‘All Good Children’, the official Cannes Film Festival selection for 2010 directed by Alicia Duffy will also be screened.
The 2011 festival features nearly fifty shorts including a programme dedicated to dance on film. Selected titles in the shorts category for CIFF 2011 include ‘Shoe’ directed by Nick Kelly, ‘The Christening’ directed by Oonagh Kearney, ‘The Heist’ directed by Thomas Hefferon and ‘Small Change’ directed by Cathy Brady.
CIFF 2011 is supported by the Imagine Ireland of Culture Ireland and is funded by the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht.
