The IFI Film festival opens tonight with an open screening of ‘The Bird’. ‘The Bird’ is a drama about a woman who has no children, no friends and is visited at her home by a bird as she is coming to terms with her grief. The film stars French actress Sandrine Kiberlain (Beur sur la ville, Polisse) and was produced by Bluemoutain Productions. There will also be a Q+A session with Yves Caumon at the screening.
During the 12 day festival other well-known French talent will be attending including veteran character actor Jean-Pierre Darroussin (Le Harve, The Snows of Kilimanjaro) presenting ‘Early One Morning’ and critic Michel Ciment will interview leading French filmmaker Claude Miller (I’m Glad My Mother is Alive, Little Lili) about his recent work.
The First-Time Directors strand will present three films from the up and coming generation of French filmmakers including Simon Werner’s with ‘Lights Out’, which follows the aftermath of a high school abduction, Roland Edzard’s ‘The End of Silence’ which tells the story of a hunting trip tinged with vengeance and Cyril Mennegun’s debut drama ‘Louise Wimmer’ which is a bleak but dignified look at a struggling divorcee.
The IFI French Film Festival is supported by its lead partner the Embassy of France in Ireland and secondary partners Airbus, the Alliance Française, CRH Europa Cinemas, Hennessy, Institut Français, The Irish Times, RTÉ, TV5 Monde and Unifrance Films and the Arts Council.
